๐ข Who Colt is
Colt Technology Services was founded in London in 1992 as City of London Telecommunications. Since 2015 it has been fully owned by Fidelity Investments, the American financial group. In 2023 Colt completed the purchase of Lumen's EMEA business, which made it one of the largest business-only carriers in Europe.
The Colt IQ Network connects 222 cities in 32 countries, with more than 1,000 data centres and over 31,000 connected buildings. Colt serves business customers only. It does not sell to consumers.
In Luxembourg, Colt operates a local entity based in the Kirchberg business district, with metro fibre reaching the capital's main business areas. Its customers here are typically large financial firms, industrial groups, and multinationals rather than local SMEs.
๐ฆ What Colt offers
Four voice pillars, usually sold alongside Colt's connectivity products, all targeting the enterprise segment.
๐ SIP Trunking
Voice connectivity in 29 countries over Colt's own network. Includes number porting, emergency call compliance, encrypted signalling, and disaster recovery controls through the Colt Online portal. Colt states an uptime target of 99.999% for this service.
๐ข Intelligent Numbers
An inbound number service covering more than 75 countries. Businesses can order geographic, toll-free, and premium numbers, and manage IVR menus (automated call menus) through a self-service portal or an API.
๐ Unified communications integration
Colt does not sell its own SME cloud PBX. Instead it connects external calling to platforms the customer already uses: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco, Google, and RingCentral. For Teams, Colt is a certified Operator Connect provider, so external calls run through Teams without extra hardware.
๐ง Contact centre (CCaaS)
Colt's contact centre offer is built around Genesys Cloud CX and is available in 13 European countries. It targets large contact centres with omni-channel routing, analytics, and compliance recording.

๐ฅ Typical client profiles
Colt targets large organisations. Four common profiles:
๐ The multinational consolidating voice
A company with sites in ten or more countries that wants one carrier and one contract for voice everywhere. Colt's 29-country SIP footprint and 75-country inbound numbers are built for exactly this.
๐ฆ The financial or capital-markets firm
Banks, funds, and trading firms already using Colt fibre for low-latency connectivity. Voice rides along inside the same contract, and Colt's capital-markets specialisation is a genuine strength here.
๐ผ The Teams-standardised enterprise
Large organisations that have moved to Microsoft Teams and need a certified Operator Connect carrier to bring external calling into Teams across many countries at once.
๐ง The large contact centre operation
Enterprises running contact centres with 100 or more agents, where Genesys-class routing, analytics, and compliance tools justify enterprise licensing costs.
๐ฏ Where Colt stands apart
Three positioning points that the comparison above does not fully capture.
๐ฐ๏ธ One of Europe's largest owned business networks
Colt owns its pan-European and intercontinental network rather than leasing capacity. For multinationals, this means one carrier can deliver both connectivity and voice across 32 countries with consistent SLAs (service level agreements).
๐ Vendor-agnostic platform integration
Colt does not lock customers into one communication platform. It connects calling to Teams, Zoom, Cisco, Google, or RingCentral, whichever the customer already uses. The trade-off: the day-to-day user experience depends on that third-party platform, not on Colt.
๐ข Enterprise-only commercial model
There is no public pricing, no self-service signup, and onboarding runs through professional services teams. This suits procurement departments running structured tenders. It does not suit a 20-person Luxembourg firm that wants working phones next week.

๐งฉ Decision tree
Two honest recommendations based on business profile.
โ Choose Colt if
- You operate in 10 or more countries and want one carrier for voice everywhere
- You are a financial or capital-markets firm needing low-latency connectivity with voice included
- You are standardising on Teams, Zoom, or Cisco and need a global calling layer underneath
- You run a large contact centre that justifies Genesys-class tooling
- Your procurement process requires an owned international backbone and global 24/7 support
๐ก Look elsewhere if
- You need published pricing before talking to sales
- You are an SME of 5 to 200 seats wanting setup in days, not a project measured in weeks
- You want one local provider accountable for PBX, numbers, internet, and support together
- You need day-to-day support in French, German, or Luxembourgish as standard
- Your telephony needs are local to Luxembourg and the Greater Region

โ Common questions
Does Colt publish its prices?
No. As of July 2026, Colt publishes no prices for SIP trunking, Intelligent Numbers, unified communications, or contact centre services. All sales are quote-based, and minutes and platform licensing can be bundled into a single monthly rate. This is common for global carriers but makes upfront comparison difficult.
Does Colt sell a cloud PBX for small businesses?
Not as a self-serve product. Colt's unified communications offer integrates platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Cisco, sold with professional services to enterprises. A Luxembourg SME looking for a ready-to-use cloud phone system with published pricing is outside Colt's target market.
Does Colt support Microsoft Teams telephony?
Yes. Colt is a certified Microsoft Operator Connect provider, which brings external calling into Teams without extra hardware. It also supports SIP-based Direct Routing for organisations that prefer that model.
Can I port my numbers to or from Colt?
Yes. Number portability in Luxembourg is regulated by the ILR, and Colt supports porting in most of the countries it serves. If voice is bundled inside a larger connectivity contract, check what leaving the voice service means for the rest of the agreement before signing.
What was the August 2025 security incident?
In August 2025, Colt was hit by a ransomware attack. Its customer support portal and Voice API were offline for several days, and Colt confirmed that files containing customer-related data were stolen. Core network services reportedly stayed up. Buyers doing due diligence can reasonably ask Colt what changed in its security controls since then.
How long does Colt onboarding take?
Colt's unified communications practice includes discovery workshops, audits, platform design, and managed migration. This is a consultative, project-based approach measured in weeks or months. It is thorough for complex multi-country estates but slower than a standard cloud PBX deployment.
